Jamie Lake from Avondale has been selected to the Canadian National wrestling team that will be doing an international tour of Romania and Spain from May 5-18. Jamie is a grade 11 student in Roncalli Central High School.

Jamie has been wrestling since grade 7. Since then, she has won a gold medal in the SSNL Provincials every year, was a member of the Canada Games team in 2013 and placed 5th and 4th at the nationals in 2014 and 2015. She was invited to the FILA Cadet trials in Fredericton on April 12 where she made it to the gold medal match that ended in a tie. This makes her the first person from Newfoundland and Labrador to be selected to the national wrestling squad.

She has also been given the opportunity to be a member of the team travelling to Italy in July and Bosnia in August. Currently, she is also an alternate for the Canadian team competing at the Pan Amercan Championships in Mexico in July. Jamie is a multi-sport athlete that has won a high school rugby championship this past season and has captured 5 national power lifting records. She also has a goal of making the Canadian National Powerlifting team within the next year.
